Today's IBL meeting has been a successful day. I came in this morning with a fairly bare blog and I'm leaving tonight with some good bones that I've added to go on and flesh out. All my evidence is in and organised which feels really good.
I also have been able to play and experiment with some vodcast software and I have found a suitable application to make my vodcast which makes me feel confident that I can move forward with this part of the challenge.
The biggest aspect that I have reflected on today is how I have explicitly taught the taxonomies that I have used in my unit. I really don't think I accomplished this very well. I am now aiming to really make explicit use so that the thinking of my students can become even deeper and more engaging.

June Reflections
Today brings me to our second IBL meeting.
I am almost at the end of teaching my geography unit. A lot of work in planning and hoping I'm on the right track. During the planning it was difficult to use all of the components needed to bring the learning and curriculum outcomes to the classroom successfully.
However, as I have taught the unit, I can see the benefits of inquiry based teaching in leading us to the outcomes we needed and leading them to these outcomes in a way that the students have found really engaging. I have had to mix some direct teaching into my unit as well, but together with the IBL strategies I have come up with a unit that I consider to be ....
I'm now looking forward to reflecting on the unit and fine tuning it so that next year I can hopefully teach an even more improved IBL unit.
I'm also hoping that I have collected enough artifacts! During the last few weeks of my unit this is something I will need to concentrate on.

Introducing...
Hi everyone.
My name is Julie Hornstra and I teach year 2 at St Catherine's Catholic College in The Whitsundays. This is my third year teaching, my third year at St Catherine's and my third year teaching year 2.
I live in Airlie Beach with my husband, Scott and my two girls, Maeve, 7 and Lola, 4. Both girls are at St Catherine's. Maeve is in year 2 and Lola is in prep. Scott and I moved to this area 15 years ago. We are originally from Melbourne. We lived on Hamilton Island for 10 years before moving to the Mainland.
I'm looking forward to IBL. Two of my colleagues have been involved in previous years and they both have a lot to say for the course.
By the way, I'm driving up from Prosperpine on Tuesday after school and staying at the Mecure. If you need a lift to CEO on Tuesday, I can fit three passengers. My email is jhornstra@prspne.catholic.edu.au.
See you Wednesday.
